Will Mauldin, Ph.D., Chairman, CEO, and Co‑founder

Dr. Mauldin received his doctorate in biomedical engineering from the University of Virginia with an undergraduate degree in applied science from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Immediately following his graduate training, Dr. Mauldin held an academic appointment as an Assistant Research Professor in the department of biomedical engineering at the University of Virginia where he developed an extensive record in clinical ultrasound research and currently holds over 60 peer-reviewed publications and patents. Dr. Mauldin currently serves as Chairman and CEO of Rivanna Medical, Inc. where he is building and leading a talented team of industry professionals to elevate global standards of care through the commercialization of the company’s world-first Accuro product line and associated medical imaging-based technologies. In this capacity, Dr. Mauldin has led strategic planning, formed industry partnerships, and attracted over $90M in funding through private and public sources that includes an up-to $65M contract with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA).

Adam Dixon, Ph.D., Executive VP Engineering

Dr. Dixon is a results-driven technical leader with a proven track record of successful technology development, clinical translation, and commercialization within the medical device sector. He has led technology development and clinical translation programs at GE Healthcare and RIVANNA, having commercialized advanced image processing technologies on multiple imaging platforms, including RIVANNA’s Accuro (ultrasound), GE’s Logiq E9 (ultrasound), GE’s Lightspeed 750HD (computed tomography), and GE’s Precision 180 (fluoroscopy). In addition, he has co-authored 15+ peer reviewed journal articles, 30+ conference abstracts, 10+ patents, and has written grants to secure over $10M in SBIR funding to support RIVANNA’s ongoing ultrasound technology development and commercialization efforts. Under Dr. Dixon’s technical leadership, every SBIR granted to RIVANNA has resulted in successful commercialization of multiple products and/or significant follow-on funding to support product development. Dr. Dixon holds a doctorate in biomedical engineering from the University of Virginia and an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from Duke University.

Vicki Brothers, Director of Marketing

Vicki holds a Bachelor of Arts in commercial design with a minor in business administration. She is the communication and marketing specialist at RIVANNA with proven expertise in developing and executing results-driven campaigns in the medical device industry. Vicki’s in-depth experience in advertising and communications forms the foundation for RIVANNA’s comprehensive marketing platform. With more than 30 years of experience, from BBDO-Detroit, where she contributed to award-winning campaigns for premier clients Mercedes-Benz and Chrysler, to heading Nectar, her own agency in Charlottesville, Vicki’s hands-on and diverse marketing skillset involves the creation of marketing and communication plans through their targeted and timely execution. At Nectar, Vicki conceived RIVANNA’s brand identity and designed the UI for the Accuro product launch in close collaboration with the engineering team. This harmonious relationship led her to RIVANNA, where her astute market analysis and trained creative eye continue to support RIVANNA’s rapid market growth. 

Tiffany Edwards, DSL, Director of People Operations & Business Administration

Dr. Edwards holds a doctorate in strategic leadership from Regent University. Her extensive leadership experience spans multiple disciplines, including human resources, fiscal management, and resource allocation. She has served in advisory and board member roles for local organizations while managing software launches, process improvements, and policy development for large institutions such as the University of Virginia. Dr. Edwards establishes best practices for recruiting, developing, and training a diverse, world-class workforce while fostering the organizational culture essential to advancing RIVANNA’s strategic objectives.

Delphine Le Roux, Ph.D., PMP, Director of Program Management

Dr. Delphine Le Roux is a biotechnology leader with over 15 years of experience in advancing technological innovations. She received her doctorate in molecular biology from the University of Versailles in France, which she earned while working at the multinational company IDEMIA. Prior to this, she obtained a master’s in biotechnology from AgroParisTech, France’s top institution for life sciences. During her tenure at IDEMIA, Dr. Le Roux played a pivotal role in the company’s Rapid DNA initiative, contributing to the development of this cutting-edge technology in collaboration with a global consortium, including Lockheed Martin (USA), Microlab, Inc. (USA), and Minifab (Australia). She further honed her leadership and management skills as a research scientist at the University of Virginia and as an operations project manager at LumaCyte, where she supported and led the development, launch, and commercialization of innovative biotechnologies. Dr. Le Roux joined RIVANNA in 2021, where she leads new technology development programs, including a $65 million BARDA-funded initiative. She oversees program management, clinical research operations, and pre-market regulatory and reimbursement strategies and contributes to business development efforts with government and corporate partners. Dr. Le Roux’s CliftonStrengths of WOO, Communication, and Positivity are significant assets to the RIVANNA team.

Mikel Lewis, Director of Manufacturing Operations

Mikel holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Jacksonville University. He served five years in the U.S. Navy as a submarine warfare officer and qualified as a naval nuclear engineer. Before joining RIVANNA, Mikel held positions of increasing responsibility at Corning Life Sciences, culminating in his role as plant operations manager. He was responsible for manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, and supply chain. At the height of the global pandemic, Mikel led the rapid design, validation, and launch of Corning’s first Viral Transport Media line. He holds the regulatory and operational acumen required to support rapid product deployment from experience with product-line transitions into and out of the U.S. Mikel refined his operational strategy through a Lean Thinking approach to manufacturing, influenced by the philosophies of Henry Ford, Taiichi Ohno, and Peter Drucker. At RIVANNA, Mikel’s process rigor, efficiencies, and leadership principles are helping shape the culture necessary for operational excellence.

Craig Loomis

Craig Loomis, Senior Director of Product Management

Craig has over 25 years of experience in global product development and commercialization within the healthcare industry. He spent the majority of his career at GE Healthcare, where he held progressively responsible roles in product development across CT, MR, X-ray, ECG (diagnostic cardiology), and point-of-care ultrasound. Notably, he spearheaded the introduction of the market-leading Venue product family. Craig has also played pivotal roles in leading product development for startups, specializing in cardiology image review workstations, COVID diagnostics, and handheld ultrasound technologies. His contributions include holding several patents, successfully developing or launching over 30 products throughout his career, and managing portfolios exceeding $200 million. In his current role at RIVANNA, Craig collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders to achieve sustainable commercial success. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Mike Mast

Mike Mast, Controller

Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in commerce with a concentration in accounting from the University of Virginia. With over a decade of experience in finance and accounting, Mike has progressed through various leadership roles throughout his career. He began his journey in Deloitte’s Audit & Assurance practice, ultimately achieving the title of senior manager. Mike’s expertise spans financial reporting and technical accounting, including a two-year rotation at Deloitte’s London office, where he supported clients in raising capital through public debt and equity offerings in the US and UK. His experience also includes advising on mergers, acquisitions, and go-public transactions. Before joining RIVANNA, Mike served as vice president controller at a private equity-backed telemedicine organization, where he led initiatives for process improvements, including spearheading the company’s ERP implementation.

Paul Sheeran

Paul Sheeran, Ph.D., Director, R&D

Dr. Sheeran is a distinguished leader in ultrasound imaging, bringing over 15 years of experience across academic and clinical research, as well as commercial product development. He holds a doctorate in biomedical engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a dual bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from NC State University. During his time at UNC, Dr. Sheeran was awarded the prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, and he later held the Frederick Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at Sunnybrook Research Institute (University of Toronto). Before joining RIVANNA, he worked at Philips Healthcare, leading product development efforts focused on 3D ultrasound imaging, contrast imaging, and workflow optimization. Notably, Dr. Sheeran introduced algorithmic enhancements that reduced workflow burden by up to 54% on the globally deployed EPIQ imaging platform. He has co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles, delivered more than 45 conference presentations, and contributed to over 20 patent applications and trade secrets. At RIVANNA, Dr. Sheeran oversees the submission of SBIR and DOD grants, coordinates grant-based clinical collaborations, manages intellectual property submissions and strategy, and leads the development of RIVANNA’s product research and development initiatives.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Nikki Troiano Gainey, MBA

Nikki has more than 25 years of medical device experience globally, within various functional areas focused on commercialization, strategy, sales, and marketing. Nikki holds a Master of Business Administration from North Carolina State University and a bachelor’s degree from Ohio Northern University. Currently, she is the chief commercial officer for YorLabs. Before joining YorLabs, Nikki was senior vice president of Siemens Healthineers Ultrasound, Global Strategic and Business Development. Prior to joining Siemens Healthineers, she held roles of increasing responsibility at GE Healthcare, where she facilitated the global marketing operations as interim ultrasound chief marketing officer.

Wayne Moore, B.Sc., MBA, FASE

Wayne Moore is a 40-year veteran of the diagnostic ultrasound market with senior-level experience in major medical equipment manufacturers, including Honeywell Medical Systems and Siemens Healthcare. Wayne holds a Master of Business Administration from the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. He has numerous publications covering diagnostic ultrasound and is a co-author on more than 25 U.S. and international ultrasound-related patents. Wayne has been directly involved in the development and commercialization of more than 20 technologically intensive diagnostic ultrasound systems during his career. He is the 2021 Ultrasound Section Chair for the Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA).

Tim Ober, DVM

Dr. Ober is an angel investor and world-renowned horse veterinarian focusing on high-performance equine athletes. He is the U.S. showjumping team veterinarian caring for some of the most famous horses in showjumping and experienced multiple Olympic, and World Championship medal wins. Dr. Ober graduated from the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. He is a regular ultrasound user for diagnostics and guided joint injections and has affiliation with major medical ultrasound manufacturers.

Kevin Owen, Ph.D.

Dr. Owen has a bachelor’s in engineering physics and a master’s in digital signal processing. Following a career in embedded software and hardware design with stints at GE and the telecoms, defense, and entertainment industries, he returned to academic study, earning a doctorate in biomedical engineering in 2012, with a specialization in hand-carried ultrasound imaging. As co-founder, VP of engineering, and system architect for RIVANNA, Dr. Owen oversaw and drove the technology development from concept to pre-production prototype and FDA clearance. He has more than a dozen publications to his credit and is an inventor on several patents.
